As it is with every wedding, this day was filled with so many special and wonderful moments. There was the usual morning champagne, tears of joy, Bridesmaid and Groomsmen gifts, joking around, hugs....all the things you expect from a wedding day. But there were three things from this wedding that stood out to me as unique and brilliant.
The first happened in the morning. Most wedding days start with the bride and groom getting ready in separate locations. I go take photos of the bride and send Angela, my second photographer, to take pictures of the groom and his groomsmen. For this wedding I was located at a suite at Penticton Lakeside Resort and Angela was sent to Loco Landing Amusment Park. The guys decided to start their day with a round of mini golf. They spend an hour or so, hitting a few golf balls around and having just a great time hanging out together at the park. Angela captured a few fun moments as they tried to best each other at each hole. I never did find out who won, however, given that it was Mike's big day, I'd say he deserved to win by default.
Another awesome moment came during the ceremony. Sondra Richardson is an amazing Celebrant who spends a lot of time before the wedding day to get to know each couple, and creates their ceremony around their unique love story. This ceremony included the custom of Ring Warming. Kendra and Mike each walked down the aisle holding each others ring. They were then passed to the groomsmen who each took a turn "warming" the rings. As the ceremony contined, the wedding rings were passed to each guest. By the time the exchanging of rings happened, the rings had been held and "warmed" by everyone there. It is a sweet way to involve each person who came out to witness the occasion and a perfect way to send off the happy couple with everyone's blessing.
Sondra also incorperated a Time Capsule ritual for the couple. Kendra and Mike, along with their parents, were asked to write letters of love and encouragement to be read at a later date. These letters along with a special bottle of wine and notes of wedding advice from the groomsmen, were all placed in a box and sealed to be opened on their 5th Wedding Anniversary. I thought this is such a great idea. To open letters from your wedding day, 5 years later, and relive the memories and feelings everyone felt that day is so special. This couple will be so blessed as they read the words written to them from each other and their families. It will be a magical moment they will remember for many years to come.
The rest of the day was spent eating a terrific meal and dancing. Touching speeches and toasts were made. More laughter and hugs between friends and family. The pure joy that surrounds a couple on their wedding day is truly amazing and contagious. It's no wonder I walk away from each wedding with a huge smile on my face and a heart filled with happiness.
