My First Blog

I had my first taste of photography in high school. I took a class with Mr. Rob Ward and though it was only for one semester, and we had limited resources, I found my calling. I knew then that this is what I wanted to do. I fell in love with light, and shadow and the art of photography. Thank you to La Crete Public School and Mr. Ward for introducing me to my future.

About 6 or 7 years ago I had a conversation with a very wonderful and talented friend who wanted to start her photography journey. I was her second shooter and loved working with her. We opened Back Alley Studios and were fairly busy for 2 great years. But as they say, all good things come to an end and sadly our time working together was too short. I learned a lot from this amazing woman. I can never thank Mary Bartsch enough for taking me under her wing. She really started me on my way to becoming a full time photographer. I thank you my dear friend.

My family has always been a huge encouragement in my life. I know I can always count on them to cheer me on, and challenge me to become better. Especially my wonderful parents, John and Martha Driedger. They have poured out their love, support, and patience on me throughout my whole life and I am a better person for it. I thank you my big, loud, incredible family for all you have done for me. I am blessed to have you!

My husband Herman is everything to me. My best friend, my biggest fan, my confidence, my reason for waking up each day, my strength and my heart. I could not do what I do without him. I would not be where I am now without him. There are not enough words to express my extreme appreciation and deep devotion to this man. I love you so much and strive to deserve you each day. Thank you for all you do for me. For listening to me when need to talk through my thoughts. For speaking out loud the things I already know but need to hear. For being patient with me when I am unreasonable. For keeping me grounded. For hanging out, sharing the housework, walking the dog and taking such great care of us. And for bringing out the best in me. I love you!

Something Blue Photography started unexpectedly. It was a year after we had closed our studio doors that I picked up a camera again. My beautiful friend Karen and her husband were expecting their first child so as a gift I offered to take their maternity and newborn photos. Soon I was asked by other expectant couples to take their photos as well and things sort of snowballed. I shot my first wedding by myself in 2013. It was this wedding that made me realize that as much as I liked taking photos of newborns and families, my passion was wedding photography. I have always been fascinated by weddings and after I found the love of my life, I enjoyed watching others find theirs. I love capturing love between two people who are dedicating their hearts and lives to each other. I adore being part of a couples special day. It is an honour!

The following photos are from my very first wedding as Something Blue Photography. I was so nervous to shoot this on my own, but I had worked with this family previously and they always have been wonderful to work with. Thank you to Alyssa and Danny, my future in Photography started with you two!
